GREEN INSTALL · NO .EXE

Office, by hand

Sumlion is an Office add-in described by one small XML file, the manifest. Upload it inside Excel (or Word) once and the pane is registered for your account. No administrator rights, nothing written to the registry.

About 2 minutes

1 · Download the manifest

Save it anywhere you can find again, e.g. Downloads. If your browser shows the XML as text instead of saving it, right-click the link → Save link as…

2 Open Excel and go to Insert → Get Add-ins

In Excel (or Word), click the Insert tab, then Get Add-ins (older builds say Add-ins or My Add-ins).

3 Switch to My Add-ins → Upload My Add-in

In the Office Add-ins window, click the MY ADD-INS tab, then the small Upload My Add-in link at the top right.

4 Choose the manifest file

Browse to manifest.prod.xml (Excel) or manifest.word.prod.xml (Word) and click Upload.

5 Open the pane from the Home ribbon

Sumlion now appears at the right end of the Home tab. Click it to open the pane, then sign in with your email.

Don't see “Upload My Add-in”?

Some perpetual builds (Office 2021 / 2024) hide it. Use a trusted folder instead — still no .exe:

  1. Create a folder, e.g. C:\Sumlion, and put the manifest file(s) in it.
  2. Share the folder with yourself: right-click → Properties → Sharing → Share… → add your own user → Share. Note the network path shown (\\YOUR-PC\Sumlion).
  3. In Excel: File → Options → Trust Center → Trust Center Settings → Trusted Add-in Catalogs. Paste the network path into Catalog Url, click Add catalog, tick Show in Menu, OK. Restart Excel.
  4. Insert → My Add-ins → SHARED FOLDER tab → Sumlion → Add.

Done

The pane updates itself from app.sumlion.cn. To remove Sumlion: Insert → My Add-ins → right-click Sumlion → Remove.
